Unsurpassed

“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the One I meant when I said, ‘A Man who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me’” (John 1:29-30).

Here John the Baptist gives the Pharisees a succinct yet full description of Jesus: He has not only surpassed John because He existed before him, but He is unsurpassed as the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

Unsurpassed is defined as “having no equal or rival for excellence or desirability.” To be unsurpassed is to be incomparable, matchless, peerless, unparalleled. Christ stands alone as God’s unique, only begotten and obedient Son, worthy of all praise. He is singular, exceptional, awesome, marvelous, glorious, and far above. He is wonderful and His name is Wonderful (Isaiah 9:6)! Jesus is truly divine and magnificent beyond our present understanding.

Lynn DeShazo’s song distills unsurpassed in four simple lines:

Lord, You are more precious than silver / Lord, You are more costly than gold

Lord, You are more beautiful than diamonds / And nothing I desire compares with You

“’Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? To whom will you compare Me? Or who is My equal?’ says the Holy One” (Isaiah 40:12, 25).

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.” (Deuteronomy 4:39).

AMEN & AMEN! Words alone cannot express His Greatness! But these certainly are a beautiful beginning!
    Waiting to see HIM,
    Secure in Christ, Linda

    • How true! But isn’t it wonderful that He still delights to inhabit our praises? 🙂
